Most names die in the same place: someone tries to say it in a noisy room and it comes out wrong. Before you commit, say your shortlist across a table to someone who has not seen it written down. If they ask you to spell it twice, it is costing you every time it is spoken.

Short beats clever. Two syllables beat four. A name that can be shouted has a real advantage over one that has to be explained, because the moment that matters is a stranger repeating it to another stranger.

THE PART EVERYONE SKIPS: CHECKING IT IS FREE

Before the name is yours, search it on the streaming platform you plan to release on, then on the handle you plan to use. If someone with an audience already has it, you inherit their search results forever, and you will spend years being the second result for your own name.

Also check what the word means somewhere other than where you live. Names travel further than the people who pick them, and the check costs a minute.

WHY THE REASONS ARE ATTACHED

A list of names on its own tells you nothing about why one works. The short reason next to each is there so you can see the mechanism — the sound, the double meaning, the contrast — and then judge whether that mechanism suits you specifically.

If a reason feels wrong for you but the sound is right, keep the sound and change the story. Plenty of good names started as one thing and were reinterpreted by the person carrying them.
